Our Story

History of DAWRUNA

In 2013, a group of dedicated human rights advocates and political activists came together to establish DAWRUNA. This initiative emerged from the recognition of a significant need for safe spaces that empower youth, women, and marginalized groups in Lebanon. The founders aimed to create an environment where these individuals could build their capacity, gain confidence, and actively participate in shaping their communities and the broader society.

Vision of DAWRUNA

DAWRUNA envisions a Lebanon where every individual enjoys enhanced quality of life through the realization and activation of basic rights. We aspire to create a society characterized by active civic engagement, informed public discourse, and equitable policy development. Our vision encompasses a collaborative and inclusive community that values non-sectarianism, equality, non-discrimination, non-violence, democracy, transparency, integrity, accountability, and collective action. Together, we aim to transform aspirations into actions, fostering a just and vibrant society for all.

Where it all began

Mission of DAWRUNA

DAWRUNA is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Lebanon by safeguarding and promoting fundamental individual rights. Our mission is to empower individuals and communities to actively engage in public life, shaping public policies across social, economic, and legal spheres. We foster an environment that champions freedom of expression, encourages bold thinking, and motivates participation in civic affairs while building sustainable institutions that contribute to a better future for all.

Values

Empowerment & Gender Equality

We believe in empowering individuals and communities, with a specific focus on promoting gender equality. We strive to ensure that everyone, regardless of gender, has equal access to opportunities for advocacy and participation in public life.

Inclusive & Conflict Sensitivity

We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive society that embraces diversity and supports all voices, particularly those affected by conflict. Our approach prioritizes understanding and addressing the unique needs and perspectives of different communities to promote harmony and cooperation.

Collaboration and Mutual Respect

We recognize that collaboration is vital for sustainable change. By valuing mutual respect and engaging diverse stakeholders, we aim to create a cooperative environment that drives effective civic engagement and equitable policy development, while taking into account the dynamics of conflict and gender.

Integrity & Transparency

We uphold the principles of honesty and transparency in our operations. Our commitment to accountability ensures that we actively engage with the community in a manner that builds trust and demonstrates ethical leadership in addressing both gender-based and conflict-related issues.

Where the money goes

At DAWRUNA, we are committed to making the most impactful use of our resources to fulfill our vision for a better Lebanon. We allocate our funds thoughtfully to ensure maximum benefit to our community and transparency in our operations. A significant portion of our budget, 75%, is dedicated to our transformative programs, which directly enhance quality of life and empower individuals with the realization of their rights. Additionally, 15% of our funds support advocacy initiatives that drive informed public discourse and equitable policy development. We also allocate 5% towards administration to maintain efficient and accountable operations, and another 5% is invested in marketing efforts to raise awareness and engage more people in our mission.
